Today I was watching a CET Arts show on Waiting for the Barbarian made into an opera by Philip Glass. This was the second time I’ve seen this show but this time, something different struck me, his comments on being taken into another world through creativity. Creativity that you are choosing to express. His place away is music and his friend is a writer, he talks about having the ability to leave this world like his friend. These alternate places that they go to allow themselves to live in their dreams. To what expense? Well maybe none, maybe a large one. I sometimes feel like I live with a Philip Glass. Mostly I’m jealous that I don’t have this out place and Daniel does. I can easily see him falling into his world of writing. To be able to know where to go and embrace what I would feel there is something that I’ve only thought of as a child. Reality can sometimes be dull and consuming, I’d much rather meet you there in my created world of pleasure.
