Today was productive, after waking early this morning and finishing an episode of Wire in the Blood (amazing show), I managed to wake Daniel (stayed up late) at about 11 and we made ourselves a hearty breakfast. It took him a while to get moving but after some tea and a sit in our front room, he was a bit more stimulated. And so our discussions progressed…
First, where my kids are going to school next year. For a couple years now I’ve been wanting to home school my young boys. I was working two years ago so they attended a Montessori school (great school). I quit working last year and our finances changed considerably and we decided to enroll the them in the public neighborhood school. Last year was the biggest eye opener I’d had in a while. I won’t go into all the details, but public school is the last place I want to send my kids for education. The Montessori school system is so attractive I began my graduate studies in the field and plan to work in education reform with this background. I haven’t found a job or even a place I plan to work, I do know I want to be part of a much needed reform in education, wherever that may be. Today, after another discussion about school (I appreciate Daniel’s patience with my obsession on the matter) we are leaning more toward home schooling with the plan to enroll them at a Montessori school next year. I was glad to have this discussion.
Second, we are not going to sell our house. We have had our house on the market for a couple months with very little activity. So this week we will begin the refinance venture and plant ourselves here for another few years.
Third, iPhones, duh! Daniel has been reading and chatting and reading and talking and breathing and eating and reading and talking, iPhones. There was the Android vs. iPhones inquiry, then the iphone 4 vs. 3GS. And now we are proud owners of two 3GS and the selling point, this morning I was made aware of the home schooling apps that I can use through out the year. First, thought, “will these be tax deductible?” I’m not sure why that ran through my head, maybe it’s my cheap Mother talking through me. Maybe for some reason I feel home schooling should have tax benefits. Either way, I’m sure it’s not and if in some remote location of the world there is a tax deduction for home school uses of your iPhone, well I won’t have downloaded the right version.
Fourth, I witnessed some domestic violence across the street and thought to call the cops, then said, “nah, I don’t care if those people beat each other up.” Anyway, they could have called the cops. I thanked myself for not running to the law for every last thing, including the fist fight between a burly-hippy man and a real skinny chick, maybe they needed to get it out.
Fifth, I mowed the lawn in 32 minutes. I appreciated the sweet glances and smiles from Daniel while he sat in the air conditioned house.
Lastly, I am drinking Sleepy Time tea with honey. A great end to a great day.
If I could have recorded Opal pressing her face into the bathroom cupboard, I would, she made me giggle.
